1. Information We Collect and Share

Spur is designed to collect the minimum amount of data necessary to function. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number. However, to provide and manage access (subscriptions), and to continually improve the experience, we collect anonymized data such as:

  • Onboarding profile data
During onboarding, we ask questions about songwriting habits (such as your experience level, writing style, and how many songs you write per year). Your answers are stored anonymously and used only to improve the app experience.

  • Usage and behavioral analytics
To understand how people use Spur and to improve the app, we collect anonymized usage data. This includes:

    • App activity: Events such as app opens, session starts, and feature interactions (e.g., creating a song, adding a chord, editing lyrics, viewing the paywall).

    • Behavioral metadata: Aggregate measurements such as character count when lyrics are edited. The actual text of your lyrics, chord names, or any other creative content is never captured or transmitted.

    • Device information: Device type, manufacturer, operating system, app version, screen dimensions, and device locale.

    • Approximate location: We derive a general location (city, region, country, and approximate postal code) from your IP address at the time events are sent. Your IP address itself is not stored. This location data is approximate and is not used to identify you.

This data is collected using PostHog, a product analytics service. All data sent to PostHog is associated with an anonymized identifier and contains no personal information.

  • Subscription data
To provide and manage premium features, we work with RevenueCat. Data shared with RevenueCat includes:

    • Anonymized identifiers: A unique, random ID generated by the app to identify your subscription status without revealing your real-world identity.

    • Purchase history: Information about the subscriptions you have purchased, renewal dates, and transaction status (e.g., whether a trial is active).

RevenueCat does not have access to your creative content.

  1. How your content is handled

Local Storage: All content you create within the Spur app, including your song files, text notes, and audio recordings, is saved exclusively on your device. This means your data remains entirely under your control.

  • No Transmission to Us: Your content is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers. We do not have access to your song ideas, lyrics, audio clips, or any other creative property.

3. Payment Processing

All financial transactions are handled securely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Spur and RevenueCat do not collect or store your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or bank account information. Please refer to the privacy policy of your respective app store for details on how they manage payment data.
